Optimal System Specifications for Dragon
Speakeasy Solutions Inc. recommends the following absolute minimum PC hardware requirements for Dragon:
Windows 7 OS

- Intel Quad Core
- i5 (at the very least — if buying a new PC, obtain the fastest chip affordable)
- 4 GB RAM (at the very least; increase RAM accordingly over and above 4 GB when using Dragon with other resource demanding applications)
- 1333Mhz RAM (higher, if possible)
- 7200 RPM hard drive (quality Solid State Drive, if possible)
- Ensure Windows 7 is installed 64 bit

- 2 GB RAM (maximum of 3 GB when using Dragon with other resource demanding applications)
Windows Vista OS

- 2.4 GHz
- 4 GB RAM
Vista is not recommended unless there is no other alternative. Consider at least upgrading to Windows 7 OS if the hardware allows.
Antivirus
If antivirus is required, we recommend: NOD32 Antivirus, plus Smart Security if there is no firewall in place.

Computer Classifications
Avoid consumer grade computer systems (often found at big box stores). Such systems are seldom created with high-quality components (hence their price point). The quality of the PC system will directly affect its performance, and subsequently the efficacy of a speech recognition solution.
Obtain a high-end business-class machine, or even a “gaming rig”. High quality components will mitigate potential bottlenecks when using more than one demanding application such as Dragon, EMRs, legal programs etc.
Demanding Applications
If several demanding applications are used simultaneously, increase the processor and RAM for improved performance.

For those installing Dragon® Medical v10, please note that it is not completely compatible with Microsoft Word when a 64-bit installation. For more information, please read this blog post. Dragon Medical Practice Edition is, however, compatible with MS Office configured 64-bit.
